I love a good chili dog. Seriously, I think they are one of the best foods in the world. You can pair it with fries or chips or just eat them by themselves. During the warmer months, we tend to grill quite often. Our whole family loves anything made on the grill: hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, pork chops, chicken, veggies, and the list goes on and on. Do you know what my favorite grilled item is? If you guessed hot dog, you would be a winner. They are so delicious with a little ketchup.
But now, I know the absolute best way to complete a hot dog. It's to make it a cheesy chili dog! This chili is superb and perfectly seasoned. My mom is a wonderful cook- one of the best that I know after my grandma- and after making this chili and trying it for the first time I'm ready to challenge her to a chili showdown! Yup, it's just that good. This chili is great with a little cheese added and some crackers, but it also makes the perfect chili dog.
Ingredients
For Chili:
1 Onion (sliced and chopped)
1.5 lbs Hamburger Meat
3 tbsp Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1 package Mild Chili Seasoning
1 tsp Dijon Mustard
29 oz Tomato Sauce
1.5 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp Salt
4 tbsp Brown Sugar
Other Ingredients:
1 package Hot Dogs(prepared either by cooking or grilling)
Buns for Hot Dogs
Cheddar Cheese Shredded
Instructions
1. In a pan brown the hamburger meat with the chopped onion. Once browned drain the grease. Add the hamburger meat and the onion to a large pot.
2. Add all of the remaining Chili ingredients to the pot. Stir together and then simmer on low for one hour. Occasionally, stir the chili.
3. When the chili is done, line a baking pan with alumni foil. Spread the buns in the pan, propped against each other. Add a hot dog to each bun, spoon chili on top, and then sprinkle with cheese. Place in the oven on broil for a couple of minutes until cheese is melted.
4. Remove from the oven and serve while warm.
