Chit Chat

Finding balance in life is something I am continuously struggling with. Long work days and 5 am wake up calls leaves me with little time to take care of myself properly and to do things that I enjoy. When the weekend rolls around I usually feel the need to cram it full of a week's worth of errands and trying to complete a never ending to-do list. Plus, now I am attempting to carve out time to job search and figure out my career plans.

To sum up I'm exhausted and I realize I need to make some changes. Maybe these changes will led to me being happier, healthier, and less stressed. Right now my plans include:

Paying attention to my health. I seldom get enough sleep and more often than not I end up depending on frozen pizzas or vegetarian chicken nuggets for dinner after getting home from work. I am determined to move up from my normal 4-5 hours of sleep to 7 hours nightly. I am also going to make a point of cooking a lot of the weekend so I have food for the rest of the week, no longer skipping breakfast, and making sure I eat fruits and/or veggies with every meal.

Prioritize and stop distractions. This includes setting priorities both at work and in my personal life, limiting the amount of items I allow on my to-do list, and find time to schedule things that are fun and that I love doing.

Focus on my mental health. I am going to starting disconnecting from my laptop, tv, and phone for a hour before bed so I can unwind. I am going to make time to read books I love and I am going to stop missing out on alone time. It would be great if I could stop putting so much pressure on myself.

I would love to hear how find balance in your life and any tips or suggestions you might have for me.

  2. Your schedule sounds suspiciously like mine...and I usually feel overextended, under slept and a bit stressed! I think the idea of taking an hour or so before bed for some down time and reading is a really good one - it's important to carve out a little relaxation time for yourself.

  3. I feel like I'm reading my own schedule here, haha. I feel worn out and so very tired, that it's wearing me out. I have way too much to do and not enough time to do it. And I need to go do more fun things really. Eat better and have more quiet times really. I try to do too much and then I end up far stretched. I have two free weeks coming up, so I will be using them to my advantage for sure, I need it. I hope you get some chill out time too and can re-balance yourself!! Have a lovely week xx

  4. good luck with finding balance! i have been trying to cook more and then i have leftovers for lunch for at least a day or two. i also try to go to bed a little early and read a book on my kindle. i usually fall asleep pretty fast doing that (so it takes me forever to finish a book!) but it helps me to unwind too. it's hard to remember to take time for yourself, but it's important. maybe start by trying to carve out one evening a week where you just do stuff for yourself instead of work stuff. good luck!!

  11. I couldn't agree more–finding balance is tough, but it sounds like you're on the right track! I've gotten into the habit of disconnecting from social media for a bit every weekend–whether it's a day or even just a few hours. The need to be "on" all the time can be tough, so that definitely helps me!

  12. Tracy I struggle with balance too. I work two jobs and tend to take on so much work that I don't have enough time to just read or be bored. My best advice to you is write it down! I've found that since I have everything written down, I accomplish everything I need and want to do. If it's on my list, it gets done, and if not, I pencil it in for the next day!

  13. It's definitely a tough balance to strike, but something that I continually strive for. Good luck and I'd love to hear how this progresses!

  14. I completely understand. I am trying to find a balance between my crazy hours at work, this blog, and still having a social life. I really need to learn to cook better as well. I basically eat pasta every night since it's so easy to make.

  15. I feel ya! I like that idea about taking an hour before bed off of electronics -- I am always glued to my tv and my phone...and it's definitely not the best way to fall asleep.

I try to say no to invites sometimes -- because if I don't, I'll never be able to have time to myself to clean the house, or catch up on reading. It's good to have quiet time! Hope you find that balance :)
